When I mask something large into a small mask I would expect the hidden area of the masked object to be masked from selection and from my sight. If I made the mask in the first place, that hidden stuff should not even seem to exist unless I'm in a mode to edit it. Do you know how insane it is when you try to select something next to a mask and you instead wind up selecting the hidden parts of a graphic or image? It's like the mask does double duty because it is effectively "masking" other parts of my drawing from selection! (And, no, navigating through the Layers Palette to lock the contents of a mask is not an acceptable option. How laborious. See how CorelDraw does it.)
